The Cumberland Community Schools Society (CCSS) is exploring how best to re-introduce programs. To start, we are focusing on our Healthy Food Program. Working together with school staff, this program will be modified to ensure the safety of students, school staff and CCSS employees. Our COVID-19 Safety Plans can be found here. Menus will be distributed the week of September 21, with lunches starting October 5. A reminder that students are currently not able to leave their classrooms to visit the kitchen for a snack, cutlery or use of the microwave.

At this time, our drop-in Youth Centre will remain closed and after-school programs will not be offered. With limited access to school facilities and concerns around students remaining in their cohorts, we have decided to wait before restarting these programs. We are beginning to make plans to introduce and/or adapt these programs but need to assess how to do this in the most effective, supportive and healthy way possible. We are committed to ensuring that programming is accessible to all students.

We will continue to provide support to the community via the Cumberland Food Share. This program includes both a Food Shed and weekly deliveries of Healthy Food Boxes. Since April, we have delivered over 600 boxes of food to Cumberland households. Our Mamacentric program, a weekly gathering place for moms with babies, has been meeting outside all summer. We hope to continue this program into the fall at an alternate location.

Thank you for your kindness and your patience as we continue to work towards providing after-school supports and other programming as soon as possible.
