The Cumberland Food Share was developed in partnership with Weird Church to ensure that all Cumberland residents have access to healthy food. When schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 51 students lost access to regular subsidized meals. The broader community was also facing food insecurity, due to loss of income and other circumstances. The Cumberland Food Share is helping to make sure that everyone in our community has healthy, fresh food on their plates.

This newly established program provides:

  1. Healthy Food Boxes: A weekly delivery of food and supplies to Cumberland families and individuals. There are currently 29 households registered in this program.
  2. The Food Shed: An outdoor, non-perishable food pantry available 24/7 in central Cumberland. The Food Shed is well used, with donations being dropped off regularly and community members helping themselves to what they need.

We are still in need of additional resources to keep this program running.

How you can help:

  1. Make a financial donation to help us purchase food and supplies. Go to our Canada Helps page or send an e-transfer to ccss.coordinator@gmail.com and include your mailing address for a charitable tax receipt.
  2. Donate non-perishable goods to the Food Shed. Drop off food items in the shed at 2688 Penrith Ave. Please do not drop off expired food.
  3. Volunteer! If you’d like to help with sorting and packing boxes, please fill out the VOLUNTEER SIGN UP SHEET. Procedures are in place to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and participants.

If you need help:

  1. If you are currently unable to access food due to financial circumstances, please fill out our FOOD ASSISTANCE REQUEST FORM.
  2. Stop by the Food Shed and take home a few items.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project:

And all the kind-hearted folks who made a donation!

We appreciate you all.
