The CCSS Youth Centre provides a safe place for youth to spend time; offering programming, life skills, support services and opportunities for leadership.
With support from School District No. 71, Cumberland Community School, the Village of Cumberland and the United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island, the Youth Centre is now in it’s fourth year of operation. Located in the Annex Building within the Cumberland Community School Campus, the drop-in Centre is open to youth in grades 6-10 three days a week, all year round. A variety of programs and special events are offered throughout the year for an annual membership fee of $10/student. It is extremely popular with an average of 15 youth in attendance each day that we are open. When asked why the Centre is important, one youth responded “acceptance here is fantastic and it’s a place we can all be who we are: youth“.
Monthly meetings are held where staff engage local youth and solicit input on programs and services offered. Youth are encouraged to get involved with their community and take on leadership roles. Over the past year, 38 youth volunteered at community events under the direction of CCSS.
With your help we can keep our Youth Centre open and expand our hours to better meet the needs of youth in our community!
At this time, we can only accept one-time donations on our website. If you would like to become a monthly donor, please donate through our Canada Helps page.
